Staying Safe in a Warehouse, According to Warehousing Distribution Company

Warehouse safety

Health and safety in the workplace is paramount but is especially important in high-risk environments such as warehouses. From slipping and tripping to encountering many different types of machinery and vehicles, there are many things in a warehouse that can cause accidents according to Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

As experts in providing warehouse facilities to many companies in Nottingham and beyond, we know how crucial health and safety is in these working environments. Read on to find out more.

Working at height

Working at height is no joke and can be the cause of trips and falls, therefore, resulting in serious injury or worse. If you’re looking for or already work within a tall warehouse with high ceilings, your stock or products are bound to be stacked that high upon shelves and racking units. Anyone who needs to work at height needs to undergo specialist training, whether that be fixing an awkwardly placed light or climbing a ladder to fetch a product.

Warehouse machinery and equipment

When you’re going about your day, you shouldn’t have to worry about an incoming and badly driven forklift or tripping over a pallet truck that has been left in the centre of the aisle for example. Ensure your warehouse is safe and that your employees are responsible with implementing 5mph speed limits, one-way systems and plenty of mirrors. Also, ensure that all operators are at least 18 years old and fully trained.

PPE

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is crucial in these sorts of environments to ensure your employees have a shield or first line of defence against any falling objects, loud noises or potentially dangerous mistakes when operating machinery. Although eye shields and ear defenders might not be necessary for a warehouse, other PPE like steel cap boots, protective gloves and high-visibility jackets might be.

At D & D Transport in Nottingham, we understand how important warehouse health and safety is. Offering both warehouse spaces and storage facilities, we can provide a safe and secure area for you and your company to work from and suit your needs today.
